For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved to write about meaningful things. As I grew up, my love for writing only grew stronger.
Words tell stories. During the times when I didn’t think my story mattered, writing saved me. Whether I’m writing blog posts, articles, lyrics and music, sermons and speeches, or books (in the near future)—about life, love, loss, faith, or theology—it’s all a part of telling the story of all of us.
And every story matters.
I went from being a shy, unconfident kid with creativity in my veins, to becoming a loud personality with a pen, a guitar, and a voice with the help of some epic mentor-friends (whom I like to call frientors). How? Because after a long time of not knowing it, I finally found out I was loved by these people and the God they pointed me to. Love changes everything.
Love gives us something to believe in, hope for the future, and a reason to live. That’s why I write.
I write music and lyrics as a solo and collaborative artist. As a musician, I was born on punk rock and soundtracks, and I’ve been growing as a worship musician and pastor, to give voice to those who haven’t found theirs yet.
I write blogs and articles (and eventually books) to make space for those trying to maintain faith through the pain and confusion life brings.
Sometimes, it’s about undergoing deconstruction during a time of unrest and unraveling in American churches of all shapes, sizes, and expressions—or in a season of life that doesn’t make sense and has more questions than answers.
Sometimes, it’s about struggling with mental health in a world that barely acknowledges the issue and does so much to compound it.
Sometimes, it’s about the disunity of the church and how avoidable it could be.
Sometimes, it’s about loneliness in a superficially-connected world.
But it’s always about finding hope and knowing love, accepting the reality of our darkness, and pursuing the light beyond it with wider vision and better ways.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Studies with an emphasis in Worship Leadership, and I’m currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Christian Ministry, both from the College of Theology at Grand Canyon University, so that I can do this better and do it more.
